Marta joined Hearbase in November 2013. She is the senior audiologist at One Ashford Hospital and is responsible for the private hearing aid service here. She also specialises in paediatric audiology and is the clinical team lead for our NHS services in south east Kent. She also works at our branches in Folkestone and Canterbury.
Marta completed her audiology degree in her home country of Portugal. After graduating she worked in two hearing care centres and in private and public hospitals where she tested adults and children for hearing loss and screened newborn babies.
In 2013 Marta published a study for an international symposium on the effects combined exposure to noise and toxic substances have on our ears and hearing. She says: “Despite publishing an article about industrial audiology and my interest in hearing aid technology, my dream has always been to work with children and be a paediatric audiologist.”
Marta wanted to work in health care because she likes to improve people’s wellbeing and make a difference to their lives.
“Working for Hearbase makes this possible,” she says. “Living in a different country with a different culture is a challenge but I am doing what I want to do. I have support from the Hearbase team which makes everything easier.”
